Text: 2 Chronicles 25:1
OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 14:1
Subject: rule of Amaziah
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Direct Quotation
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Both texts introduce Amaziah's reign with the same formula: age 25 at accession, 29-year reign, his mother Jehoaddin of Jerusalem. Both give the qualified evaluation "he did right in the eyes of the LORD, yet not like David his father" — a middling assessment that neither fully commends nor condemns. The Chronicler significantly expands the account to include Amaziah's hire and dismissal of Israelite mercenaries, an unnamed prophet's warning, and the theological explanation for his later defeat: "because they had sought the gods of Edom" (2 Chr 25:20).
