OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 15:1
Subject: rule of Uzziah/Azariah
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Direct Quotation

Significance: Both texts introduce Uzziah/Azariah's reign (Kings uses "Azariah," Chronicles uses "Uzziah" — the same king with two names). Both record his 52-year reign beginning at age 16 and his positive evaluation. However, Kings gives Uzziah only seven verses, noting mainly that "the LORD struck the king, so that he was a leper until the day of his death" (2 Kgs 15:5). The Chronicler in 2 Chronicles 26:3-23 provides the crucial cause: Uzziah's heart was "lifted up" (גָּבַהּ לִבּוֹ, gavah libbo) and he entered the temple to burn incense, a priestly prerogative, resulting in divine judgment through leprosy.
