Text: 2 Chronicles 28:1
OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 16:1
Subject: rule of Ahaz
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Direct Quotation
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Both texts introduce Ahaz's reign with one of the most negative evaluations in Judah's history: "he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD" but instead "walked in the ways of the kings of Israel." Both record his horrific practice of passing his son through the fire (הֶעֱבִיר בָּאֵשׁ, he'evir ba'esh) and his worship at high places. The Chronicler in 2 Chronicles 28:1ff expands the account of divine judgment through military disasters — massive defeats by Aram and Israel resulting in 120,000 killed and 200,000 captives — interpreting these as direct consequences of Ahaz's apostasy.
