Text: 2 Chronicles 29:1
OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 18:1
Subject: opening frame of rule of Hezekiah
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Both texts introduce Hezekiah's reign with the highest possible evaluation: "He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done" — the comparison to David being the ultimate commendation. Kings summarizes his reforms in a few verses (removing high places, breaking the bronze serpent). The Chronicler in 2 Chronicles 29 immediately launches into Hezekiah's temple restoration, which he began "in the first month of the first year of his reign" — a detail emphasizing that worship renewal was Hezekiah's absolute first priority. Chronicles devotes four full chapters (29-32) to material largely absent from Kings.
