Text: 2 Chronicles 3:1-2
OT Text Referred to: Genesis 22:2
Subject: Mount Moriah — Sacrifice and Temple
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): Typology + Longitudinal Theme
Significance: The Chronicler uniquely identifies Solomon's temple site as "Mount Moriah" (הַר הַמּוֹרִיָּה, har hammoriyyah, 2 Chr 3:1), the same "land of Moriah" (אֶרֶץ הַמֹּרִיָּה, 'erets hammoriyyah) where God directed Abraham to offer Isaac (Gen 22:2). This is the only passage in Scripture that explicitly equates the two locations, forging a theological link between Abraham's foundational act of sacrificial obedience and the permanent house of worship built on the same ground. The place where God provided a ram in place of Isaac (Gen 22:14, "on the mountain of the LORD it will be provided") becomes the place where Israel's ongoing sacrificial system is institutionalized, embedding the memory of divine provision into the temple's very geography.
