2 Chronicles 30:2-3 to Numbers 9:9-11

Text: 2 Chronicles 30:2-3

OT Text Referred to: Numbers 9:9-11

Subject: delayed Passover provision applied

Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Reference Type: Allusion

Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme

Significance: Numbers 9:9-11 establishes the second-month Passover provision: anyone unclean or on a distant journey may celebrate on the fourteenth day of the second month instead. 2 Chronicles 30:2-3 records Hezekiah's application of this exact provision: "The king, his officials, and the whole assembly in Jerusalem decided to celebrate the Passover in the second month, for they had been unable to celebrate it at the regular time because not enough priests had consecrated themselves, and the people had not assembled in Jerusalem." The Chronicler explicitly connects Hezekiah's decision to the Numbers precedent, showing how wilderness legislation provided legitimate flexibility for the monarchy's renewal of neglected worship practices.
