Text: 2 Chronicles 33:1
OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 21:1
Subject: rule of Manasseh
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Direct Quotation
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Both texts introduce Manasseh with the same regnal formula: age 12 at accession, 55-year reign (the longest in Judah's history), mother Hephzibah. Both give him the most negative evaluation possible: "He did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations." Both list his specific sins — rebuilding the high places, erecting altars to Baal, making an Asherah pole, and worshiping the host of heaven. However, the accounts diverge dramatically regarding Manasseh's fate: Kings records only unrelenting wickedness, while the Chronicler adds Manasseh's captivity, repentance, and restoration — material entirely absent from Kings.
