Subject: Amon's reign — parallel account

Significance: These are parallel accounts of Amon's two-year reign, the shortest in Judah's history apart from those cut short by foreign intervention. Both record his idolatry, his assassination by his own servants, and the "people of the land" (עַם הָאָרֶץ, 'am ha'arets) executing the conspirators and installing his son Josiah. The Chronicler adds that Amon "multiplied guilt" (הִרְבָּה אַשְׁמָה, hirbah 'ashmah, 2 Chr 33:23) and, unlike Manasseh, refused to humble himself. Both accounts serve as a brief dark interlude between the partially redeemed Manasseh and the reformer Josiah, showing that the "people of the land" maintained Davidic continuity even when the court fractured.
