Text: 2 Chronicles 34:1
OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 22:1
Subject: rule of Josiah
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Direct Quotation
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Both texts introduce Josiah's reign with the same formula: age 8 at accession, 31-year reign, and the unqualified positive evaluation "he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left." However, the accounts diverge on chronology: Kings dates Josiah's reforms to his 18th year (when the Torah scroll was found), while the Chronicler dates his initial seeking of God to his 8th year and his purging of idolatry to his 12th year — six years before the Torah discovery. This earlier dating in Chronicles presents Josiah as self-motivated rather than scroll-prompted.
