Text: 2 Chronicles 35:5
OT Text Referred to: Numbers 18:3
Subject: Levitical sacrificial duties
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Echo
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Numbers 18:3 assigns the Levites to attend to tabernacle duties while warning they "must not come near to the furnishings of the sanctuary or the altar, or both they and you will die." 2 Chronicles 35:5 records Josiah commanding the Levites to "stand in the Holy Place by the divisions of the families" during his great Passover. Josiah's reform restores the Numbers 18 order of service, stationing Levites in their proper divisions after generations of cultic disorder under Manasseh and Amon. The Chronicler emphasizes that this Passover was conducted "according to the word of the LORD given by Moses" (2 Chr 35:6), directly linking Josiah's practice to the Mosaic legislation.
