OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 24:13
Subject: removal of temple vessels
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: In 2 Kings 24:13, Nebuchadnezzar "carried off all the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the royal palace, and he cut in pieces all the articles of gold that Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple." The Chronicler in 2 Chronicles 36:10 records that Nebuchadnezzar "brought him to Babylon, along with the valuable articles (כְּלֵי חֶמְדָּה, keley chemdah) from the house of the LORD." Both passages narrate the stripping of the temple Solomon had lavished with gold — the reversal of 1 Kings 7's description of the temple furnishings. What Solomon crafted, Nebuchadnezzar carried away, fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy to Hezekiah (2 Kgs 20:17).
