Text: 2 Chronicles 36:18
OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 25:8
Subject: exile of Judah
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: In 2 Kings 25:8-9, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard burns the house of the LORD, the royal palace, and every great house in Jerusalem. The Chronicler in 2 Chronicles 36:18 focuses on the plundering: "All the articles of the house of God, large and small, the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king and his officials — all these he brought to Babylon." Kings emphasizes the physical destruction; Chronicles emphasizes the transfer of sacred wealth. Together they narrate the complete undoing of Solomon's temple — the building that took seven years to construct is destroyed in a single campaign, and everything Solomon dedicated is carried to a pagan land.
