Significance: These are parallel accounts of Jehoiakim's reign during the transition from Egyptian to Babylonian hegemony. Kings provides the more detailed narrative: Nebuchadnezzar invades, Jehoiakim becomes his vassal for three years then rebels, and God sends raiding bands of Chaldeans, Arameans, Moabites, and Ammonites "according to the word of the LORD which He spoke through His servants the prophets" (2 Kgs 24:2). The Chronicler compresses the reign, adding the bronze-chain detail about Nebuchadnezzar's personal intervention and noting the "abominations which he did" (תוֹעֵבֹתָיו, to'evotav, 2 Chr 36:8). Both present Jehoiakim's reign as the beginning of Judah's end.
