2 Chronicles 6:36-39 to Deuteronomy 4:29-31

Text: 2 Chronicles 6:36-39

OT Text Referred to: Deuteronomy 4:29-31

Subject: Seeking God from exile

Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Reference Type: Allusion

Connection Method(s): None

Significance: Solomon's exile petition (2 Chr 6:36-39) shares the same seeking-and-finding theology as Deuteronomy 4:29-31: "From there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul" (bikkashtem...u-matsata). Both texts use the verb biqesh/darash ("seek") as the key to restoration from exile, and both ground the hope of restoration in God's merciful character—Deuteronomy 4:31 assures that God "is a merciful God" (El rachum) who will not abandon His people. Solomon's prayer applies this Mosaic assurance to the specific act of praying toward the temple from captivity.
