Text: Ezra 8:3-14
OT Text Referred to: Ezra 2:3-20
Subject: List of laity families

Reference Type: Echo
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Ezra 8:3-14 lists the family heads who returned with Ezra in the second wave of return, and many of the same family names appear in the first return census of Ezra 2:3-20 (Parosh, Pahath-moab, Zettu/Zattu, Adin, Elam, Shephatiah, Joab, Bani/Bebai, Azgad, Adonikam, Bigvai). The overlap of clan names demonstrates that both waves drew from the same extended families, with some members returning under Zerubbabel and others decades later under Ezra. This genealogical continuity between the two return movements establishes that the post-exilic community maintained family identity throughout the exile and organized its restoration around ancestral clan structures.
