Text: Psalm 106:24
OT Text Referred to: Deuteronomy 1:32
Subject: wilderness rebellion
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Moses charges that Israel "did not trust" (לֹא הֶאֱמַנְתֶּם, lo he'emantem) the LORD despite visible evidence of His provision, and the psalmist restates this failure: "they did not believe His promise" (לֹא הֶאֱמִינוּ לִדְבָרוֹ, lo he'eminu lidvaro). Both texts use the root אמן ('mn) to diagnose the Kadesh-barnea crisis as fundamentally a crisis of faith rather than military calculation. The psalmist transforms Moses's historical accusation into liturgical confession, inviting later worshippers to identify with and repent of the same pattern of unbelief that barred the wilderness generation from the land.
