Text: Psalm 106:24-26
OT Text Referred to: Numbers 14:31
Subject: children's inheritance after parental unbelief
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Numbers 14:31 contains a striking irony: "But I will bring your children, whom you said would become plunder, into the land you have rejected." The very children Israel feared would be prey become the heirs of the promise. Psalm 106:24-26 recounts this judgment without the note of grace for the children, instead emphasizing the severity of the oath: "He raised His hand and swore to cast them down in the wilderness." The psalm's focus on corporate failure serves its penitential purpose, while Numbers 14:31 reveals that even within judgment, God preserves a future generation through whom the promise continues.
