OT Text Referred to: Deuteronomy 3:26
Subject: leadership consequences
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Echo
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Deuteronomy 3:26 (referenced as 3:36 in some versification systems) presents Moses's exclusion from the promised land as caused by God's anger "on account of you" (לְמַעַנְכֶם, lema'ankhem)—blaming the people's provocations. Psalm 106:32 echoes this: "At the waters of Meribah they angered the LORD, and trouble came to Moses because of them." Both texts present Moses's disqualification as a consequence of communal sin: the people's rebellion at Meribah was so severe that even the covenant mediator himself was caught in its consequences. The psalm preserves the Deuteronomic emphasis on corporate responsibility while using the episode as a warning within liturgical confession.
