Text: Psalm 106:44-46
OT Text Referred to: 1 Kings 8:50
Subject: Worship and theological reflection
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme
Significance: In 1 Kings 8:50, Solomon prays, "Forgive Your people who have sinned against You... and grant them compassion (רַחֲמִים, rachamim) before those who took them captive, that they may have compassion on them." Psalm 106:44-46 describes this very scenario in retrospect: God "heard their cry... remembered His covenant... and caused them to be pitied (רַחֲמִים) by all who held them captive." The shared vocabulary of compassion (רַחֲמִים) and the identical pattern — sin, captivity, prayer, divine compassion through captors — shows how Psalm 106 interprets Israel's exile experience through the theological framework Solomon established in his dedication prayer.
