Text: Psalms 22:1
OT Text Referred to: Psalms 13:1
Subject: Lament-to-Praise Pattern
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Echo
Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme
Anchor Text: Psalm 22 — My God My God Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me
Significance: Both psalms begin with intense questioning of God's apparent absence. Psalm 13 uses "How long?" (עַד־אָנָה) four times (vv.1-2), while Psalm 22 asks "Why?" (לָמָה) have you forsaken me. Both follow the classic lament structure that moves from cry to trust to praise. Psalm 22 intensifies the pattern established in Psalm 13—the suffering is more vivid, the imagery more extreme, yet the resolution is also more expansive (extending to "all the ends of the earth," Ps 22:27). This intra-psalmic connection establishes that Psalm 22 participates in a broader Davidic pattern of righteous suffering that produces praise.
