Text: Psalms 81:16
OT Text Referred to: Deuteronomy 32:14
Subject: Wilderness provision (B)
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme
Significance: Psalm 81:16 promises feeding with "the finest wheat" (חֵלֶב חִטָּה, chelev chittah, literally "the fat of wheat") — the same phrase used in Deuteronomy 32:14 where God "fed him with... the finest wheat" (חֵלֶב חִטָּה). The distinctive phrase chelev chittah appears in both texts to describe God's richest provision — the fattest, most choice portion of the grain harvest. The Song of Moses (Deut 32) uses it to describe what God actually gave Israel in the land, while Psalm 81 uses it to describe what God would give if Israel would only listen, creating a pattern of abundance conditioned on obedience.
