Significance: Psalm 96:7-8 calls "Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength" (הָבוּ לַיהוָה מִשְׁפְּחוֹת עַמִּים, havu laYHWH mishpechot ammim). Psalm 29:1-2 contains the identical tripartite "ascribe" formula: "Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings (בְּנֵי אֵלִים, bene elim), ascribe to the LORD glory and strength." The nearly word-for-word correspondence — differing only in the addressee — suggests that Psalm 96 deliberately adapts Psalm 29's heavenly call for an earthly audience. What the celestial beings owe God in Psalm 29, all human families owe Him in Psalm 96, extending the summons to worship from the divine council to the nations of the earth.
