Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Numbers 15:39 warns Israel not to "prostitute yourselves by following your own heart and your own eyes" (לֹא תָתוּרוּ אַחֲרֵי לְבַבְכֶם וְאַחֲרֵי עֵינֵיכֶם, "do not scout after your heart and after your eyes"). Ecclesiastes 11:9 inverts this language with deliberate irony: "Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes" -- but immediately adds the corrective, "know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment." The shared vocabulary of "heart" (לֵב) and "eyes" (עֵינַיִם) creates a verbal bridge, with Qoheleth seeming to permit what Numbers forbids, only to reassert divine accountability. The echo transforms the Torah's external tassel-reminder into an internalized awareness of judgment.
