Anchor Text: Isa 9:6-7 — For to Us a Child Is Born
Significance: Isaiah 22:22 describes Eliakim receiving "the key to the house of David" (מַפְתֵּחַ בֵּית דָּוִד, mafteach beit David) placed on his shoulder, echoing Isaiah 9:6 where "the government will be upon His shoulders" (הַמִּשְׂרָה עַל־שִׁכְמוֹ, hamisrah al-shikmo). Both passages use the image of authority placed on the shoulder, connecting the Davidic steward's administrative power to the messianic child's sovereign rule. Eliakim's authority to open and shut — with no one able to reverse his decisions — prefigures the absolute governmental authority of the coming Wonderful Counselor, while his role as "father" to Jerusalem's inhabitants (22:21) parallels the messianic title "Everlasting Father" in 9:6.
