Significance: Isaiah 43:14-17 recasts the Babylonian exile's end as a new exodus, explicitly recalling Exodus 14's Red Sea deliverance. The LORD introduces Himself as Israel's "Redeemer" (גֹּאֲלֲכֶם, go'alkhem) and then echoes the exodus narrative: "He who makes a way in the sea, a path through the mighty waters" (43:16), recalling Moses' parting of the sea. Verse 17 describes the pursuing army — "chariot and horse, army and warrior" — lying down together "never to rise again, snuffed out like a wick," paralleling Pharaoh's army drowned in the sea (Ex 14:28). Yet Isaiah 43:18-19 then commands Israel to transcend this very memory: "Do not remember the former things... I am doing a new thing," indicating the new exodus will surpass even the original.
