Text: Isaiah 55:3
OT Text Referred to: 2 Chronicles 6:1
Subject: dedication of temple
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Echo
Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme
Significance: Isaiah 55:3 offers the people "the faithful mercies of David" (חַסְדֵי דָוִד הַנֶּאֱמָנִים, chasdei David hanne'emanim) — an everlasting covenant. 2 Chronicles 6:1-42 records Solomon's temple dedication prayer, which in its conclusion (6:42) petitions: "do not turn away the face of Your anointed one; remember the mercies of David Your servant" (חַסְדֵי דָוִיד עַבְדֶּךָ, chasdei David avdekha). Both passages invoke the "mercies/faithfulness of David" (חַסְדֵי דָוִד) as the basis for God's ongoing covenant relationship. Solomon appeals to David's covenant at the temple's founding; Isaiah democratizes that same covenant, extending David's mercies to the entire people as they face exile's end.
