Anchor Text: Gen 1:1 — In the Beginning

Significance: Isaiah 66:22 promises "the new heavens and the new earth (הַשָּׁמַיִם הַחֲדָשִׁים וְהָאָרֶץ הַחֲדָשָׁה) that I make will endure before Me," echoing Genesis 1:1's "heavens and earth" (הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֵת הָאָרֶץ). While Isaiah 65:17 announces the creation of the new cosmos, 66:22 adds the crucial element of permanence — they will "endure" (עֹמְדִים, omdim) before God. The original creation of Genesis 1 was subject to decay and corruption through the fall; Isaiah's new creation will be permanent. The endurance of the new heavens and earth parallels and guarantees the endurance of Israel's "offspring and name" — the permanence of the new cosmos validates the permanence of the covenant people within it.
