Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Both Lamentations 3:48-49 and Jeremiah 14:17 use virtually identical language of overflowing tears for the בַּת־עַמִּי (bat-ammi, "daughter of my people"). Jeremiah 14:17 describes eyes flowing with tears "day and night" that "do not cease" over the "virgin daughter of my people" who has been "shattered by a crushing blow." Lamentations 3:48-49 echoes this with "streams of tears flow from my eyes" that "overflow unceasingly, without relief." The shared vocabulary of unceasing weeping and the identical phrase "daughter of my people" strongly suggests the Lamentations poet is consciously adopting Jeremiah's prophetic lament posture, confirming the fulfillment of the very disaster Jeremiah foresaw.
