Anchor Text: Ezek 36-37 — A New Heart and Dry Bones
Significance: Ezekiel 36:26-27 expands the earlier promise of 11:19-20, where God pledged a "heart of flesh" (לֵב בָּשָׂר, lev basar) replacing the "heart of stone" (לֵב הָאֶבֶן, lev ha'even) so that Israel would "walk in My statutes" (בְּחֻקּוֹתַי יֵלֵכוּ, bechuqqotay yelekhu). Chapter 36 adds the crucial mechanism: "I will put My Spirit within you" (רוּחִי אֶתֵּן בְּקִרְבְּכֶם, ruchi etten beqirbekhem), explaining how the new heart produces obedience. The progression from chapter 11 to chapter 36 deepens the promise: the earlier oracle identified the need (new heart), while the later oracle provides both the means (the Spirit) and the comprehensive context (cleansing, ingathering, land restoration) within which internal transformation occurs.
