Text: Ezekiel 45:21
OT Text Referred to: Leviticus 23:4
Subject: Passover and Tabernacles
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme
Significance: Ezekiel 45:21 prescribes the Passover as a seven-day festival in the eschatological temple, echoing Leviticus 23:4-8's designation of Passover and Unleavened Bread as מוֹעֲדֵי יהוה (mo'adey YHWH, "appointed feasts of the LORD"). Both texts establish the fourteenth day of the first month as the Passover date with seven days of unleavened bread. Ezekiel simplifies the Levitical festival calendar to only two major feasts—Passover and a fall festival (45:25)—and assigns the נָשִׂיא (nasi, "prince") responsibility for providing all the offerings, centralizing festival worship under royal patronage in a way the Levitical legislation did not envision.
