Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme
Significance: Daniel 1:2 reports that Nebuchadnezzar carried כְּלֵי (kelei, "articles/vessels") from the בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים (beit ha-elohim, "house of God") to the temple of his god in Shinar. 2 Kings 24:13 provides the parallel historiographical account: Nebuchadnezzar "carried off all the treasures from the house of the LORD" and "cut into pieces all the gold articles that Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple." Daniel's account emphasizes the theological dimension by noting the destination was "the land of Shinar" -- recalling Genesis 11's Babel -- while 2 Kings focuses on the Solomonic treasures destroyed. Together they present the temple plunder as both historical fact and symbolic reversal of Solomon's glory.
