Text: Daniel 12:2

OT Text Referred to: Isaiah 66:24

Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme

Significance: Isaiah 66:24 describes the fate of the rebellious: "their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched" (תּוֹלַעְתָּם לֹא תָמוּת וְאִשָּׁם לֹא תִכְבֶּה, tola'tam lo tamut ve'isham lo tikhbeh) — an image of unending judgment. Daniel 12:2 presents the corresponding dual-outcome eschatology: some awake "to everlasting life" but others "to shame and everlasting contempt" (לְדִרְאוֹן עוֹלָם, ledire'on olam). Both texts envision a final, permanent division between the righteous and the wicked, with the judgment of the wicked described as eternal. Isaiah provides the imagery (undying worm, unquenched fire); Daniel provides the framework (resurrection to dual destinies). Together they form the OT's most explicit witness to eschatological judgment.
