Significance: Jeremiah 49:12 uses the cup-of-wrath metaphor: "those who did not deserve to drink the cup must drink it; shall you then go unpunished?" This echoes Obadiah's theme of Edom's impending judgment — if even Israel must drink God's cup of judgment, how much more the nations, and especially Edom, who rejoiced over Judah's calamity. Both oracles target Edom with the logic of divine justice: those who gloated over Israel's suffering will face worse. The cup imagery links to Jeremiah's broader nations-oracle framework (25:15-26) while Obadiah focuses specifically on the principle of reciprocal judgment (Obad 15: "as you have done, it will be done to you").
