Text: Habakkuk 3:19
OT Text Referred to: Psalms 18:32-33
Subject: Treading upon heights (B)
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: Psalm 18:33 declares "He makes my feet like those of a deer; He sets me on the heights (בָּמוֹתַי, bamotai)" — virtually identical to Habakkuk 3:19: "He makes my feet like those of a deer; He causes me to walk on my high places (בָּמוֹתַי, bamotai)." The shared imagery of deer-footed surefootedness on heights uses the same Hebrew vocabulary — אַיָּלוֹת (ayalot, "deer"), רַגְלַי (raglai, "my feet"), and בָּמוֹת (bamot, "heights"). David celebrates this as military victory language (Psalm 18 is a royal thanksgiving), while Habakkuk appropriates it as a confession of faith despite devastating circumstances ("though the fig tree does not bud"). The identical metaphor serves military triumph in one context and prophetic faith in another.
