Anchor Text: Deut 18:15-19 — A Prophet Like Moses
Significance: The divine voice at the Transfiguration — "This is My Son, whom I have chosen. Listen to Him!" (Luke 9:35) — deliberately echoes the command of Deuteronomy 18:15: "You must listen to him (šāmaʿ tišmaʿ ʾēlāyw)" — God's instruction regarding the Prophet-like-Moses. The Greek autou akouete ("listen to him!") in Luke 9:35 reproduces the LXX of Deuteronomy 18:15, making the connection unmistakable. The Transfiguration scene frames Jesus between Moses and Elijah — the Law and the Prophets — and the voice's command to "listen to him" identifies Jesus as the eschatological Prophet whom Moses predicted, the one to whom all previous revelation pointed. Acts 3:22-23 and Acts 7:37 make the Deuteronomy 18 allusion explicit in the apostolic preaching. The command replaces the Old Testament mediators with the Son himself as the final and definitive spokesman.
