Context: Isaiah 2:2-4 (paralleled almost verbatim in Micah 4:1-3) is one of Scripture's most vivid prophetic visions of eschatological Gentile worship. Following Isaiah 1's indictment of Judah's rebellion, chapter 2 opens with a dramatic reversal: in the future ("the last days"), nations will stream to Zion to learn Torah and walk in Yahweh's ways. The vision includes international pilgrimage, instruction in God's law, global peace (swords to plowshares), and Yahweh's universal reign.
OT-to-OT Development
- Genesis 12:3 promised all families blessed in Abraham.
- Psalm 2:8 promised the Messiah "the nations as your heritage, and the ends of the earth as your possession."
- Psalm 22:27 envisioned "all the families of the nations" worshiping.
- Psalm 72:8, 11 (Davidic-Messianic): "May he have dominion from sea to sea... May all kings fall down before him, all nations serve him!"
- Isaiah develops this vision: 42:6 (light to nations), 49:6 (salvation to ends of earth), 56:6-8 (foreigners in temple), 60:3 (nations come to your light), 66:18-21 (gathering all nations).
- Zechariah 8:20-23: "And many peoples and strong nations will come to seek the LORD of Hosts in Jerusalem... In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue will tightly grasp the robe of a Jew, saying, 'Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.'"
- Zechariah 14:16: "Then everyone who survives of all the nations that have come against Jerusalem shall go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts."

- FROM NT:
- Forward-Looking Type: The text explicitly points to "the last days" and describes future events (nations streaming, learning Torah, international peace). This is expectational prophecy.
- Providential Type: God sovereignly revealed this vision to establish hope and anticipate the multinational Church.
Connection Method(s): Promise-Fulfillment, Longitudinal Theme — Isaiah's vision of nations streaming to Zion in "the last days" is fulfilled as Christ draws all peoples to Himself through the cross (John 12:32), with the Church as eschatological Zion (Heb 12:22-24) and the New Jerusalem receiving nations' glory eternally (Rev 21:24-26).
Christological Connection: Jesus is the fulfillment of Isaiah's vision. He declared, "I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself" (John 12:32). The cross and resurrection inaugurated the era when Gentiles would "flow" to God's holy mountain. The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19, "make disciples of all nations") implements Isaiah 2:3 ("Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD... that he may teach us his ways"). The Church is the eschatological Zion where "out of Zion shall go forth the law" (Isaiah 2:3) becomes the gospel going forth from Jerusalem (Acts 1:8; Luke 24:47). Hebrews 12:22-24 explicitly identifies believers with Mount Zion: "You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven... and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant." Revelation 21:24-26 consummates the vision: "The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it... They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations." The trajectory: Isaiah prophesies nations flowing to Zion → Jesus accomplishes redemption → Great Commission sends disciples to nations → Church gathers multinational worshipers → New Jerusalem receives eternal worship from all nations. Messiah's work transforms prophetic hope into eschatological reality.
