Context: The Feast of Firstfruits occurs on the day after the Sabbath during Passover week. The priest waves a sheaf (omer) of the first barley harvest before the LORD, and on that same day the people offer a male lamb without blemish as a burnt offering, accompanied by a grain offering and drink offering. This sacrifice, producing a "pleasing aroma to the LORD," consecrates the entire harvest to God and acknowledges His provision. The firstfruits principle demonstrates that the first and best belongs to God, and His acceptance of the firstfruits guarantees blessing on the remainder. Until this offering was made, no one could eat from the new harvest (Leviticus 23:14).

Connections

Christological Connection: Within the pleasing-aroma trajectory this text is cult-data: the burnt offering that accompanies the first sheaf is received as a pleasing aroma, and the whole harvest is thereby offered back to the One who gave it. Paul does call the risen Christ "the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep" (1 Corinthians 15:20, 23), but that correspondence runs through the feast's harvest-imagery, not through the aroma formula, and it is traced elsewhere rather than claimed here as a type. What this text contributes to the aroma trajectory is the verdict itself: God receives what is offered to Him on His terms — and every offering of His people is received, in the end, through the one offering He has accepted in Christ (Ephesians 5:2).

Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme (contributing cult-data) — the lamb offered with the first sheaf is "an offering made by fire to the LORD, a pleasing aroma" (23:13), one more datum that the divine-acceptance verdict attaches to acceptable ascent across the whole cult, here consecrating the harvest to its Giver. Typology not claimed here: the firstfruits → resurrection correspondence (1 Corinthians 15:20) belongs to a firstfruits/resurrection trajectory, not to the aroma formula, and was removed from this table; it is not billed in this trajectory.
