Context: The Feast of Weeks (Shavuot, later called Pentecost) occurs fifty days after the Feast of Firstfruits, celebrating the completion of the wheat harvest. On this day, Israel presents a new grain offering to the LORD and offers burnt offerings that produce a "pleasing aroma"—two young bulls, one ram, and seven male lambs without blemish. This festival transitions from the barley harvest (Firstfruits) to the wheat harvest (Weeks), both consecrated to God through sacrifice. The abundance of offerings reflects gratitude for God's provision and acknowledges His ownership of the land's productivity. Pentecost later became associated with the giving of the Law at Sinai, according to Jewish tradition.
OT-to-OT Development
- Exodus 23:16 and 34:22 command observing the Feast of Harvest/Weeks
- Leviticus 23:15-21 provides detailed instructions for the festival
- Deuteronomy 16:9-12 emphasizes rejoicing and remembering former slavery
- 2 Chronicles 8:13 records Solomon's faithful observance of the three annual feasts

Christological Connection: Within the pleasing-aroma trajectory this text is cult-data: the harvest feast's burnt offerings are received as a pleasing aroma, and the wheat harvest is consecrated to its Giver. The New Testament places the Spirit's outpouring on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1, 41), and it speaks of Christ, the Spirit and believers in firstfruits terms (1 Corinthians 15:20; Romans 8:23; James 1:18); but those connections run through the feast and its harvest-imagery, not through the aroma formula, and they are not claimed here as a type. What this text contributes to the aroma trajectory is the verdict itself: God receives what is offered to Him on His terms — and every offering of His people is received, in the end, through the one offering He has accepted in Christ (Ephesians 5:2).
Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme (contributing cult-data) — the Feast of Weeks' burnt offering is presented "as a pleasing aroma to the LORD" (28:27), carrying the divine-acceptance verdict into Israel's harvest calendar. Typology not claimed here: a Weeks → Pentecost escalation was removed from this table as speculative; the feast's NT reception belongs to the feast trajectories, not to the aroma formula, and is not billed in this trajectory.
