Significance

Daniel 7:21-22 shows the arrogant horn "waging war against the saints and prevailing against them," until the Ancient of Days gives judgment for them and the time comes "for them to possess the kingdom." Luke 21:8-11 does not quote Daniel; the tie is quiet, a shared pattern rather than shared words. Deceivers come, "wars and rebellions" and "kingdom against kingdom" follow, but "the end is not imminent" (21:9). Like Daniel, Jesus places a season of conflict and persecution (21:12-19) before the kingdom, and He tells His disciples not to be alarmed. The Christ line comes from the same chapter of Daniel: Jesus says "they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory" (21:27), the figure who in Daniel 7:13-14 receives the everlasting kingdom. The One who warns against men claiming "I am He" (21:8) is Himself the true Son of Man, and so His people can "stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near" (21:28).
