Earlier text
The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to him.
Deuteronomy 18:15 is the plainest place where Moses wrote of a coming figure: "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to him." When Philip tells Nathanael, "We have found the One Moses wrote about in the Law, the One the prophets foretold" (John 1:45), he names no verse, so the tie is clear but general: Deuteronomy 18 is the likeliest Mosaic text, with the whole Law and Prophets behind it. The promised One turns out to have a hometown and a family, "Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael's doubt is met with "Come and see" (1:46), and the scene ends with Jesus promising that they will "see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man" (1:51). The Prophet Moses wrote about is the meeting place of heaven and earth. Philip's word "found" carries the joy of a long search ended, the joy the Scriptures were written to give, and he cannot keep it to himself.
