Later text

John 14:2-3BSB

In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.

Earlier text

Song of Solomon 8:2BSB

I would lead you and bring you to the house of my mother who taught me. I would give you spiced wine to drink, the nectar of my pomegranates.

Significance

Apocalyptic literature describes heavenly dwelling places for saints. John more restrained than Jewish apocalyptic or Philo. Rabbinic notion of seven compartmentalized departments foreign to John. Jesus (Son) establishing followers as members of Father's household. Echoes Song 8:2 (messianic bridegroom, cf. 3:29) preparing place and coming to take them home.
