Significance

"And now" found also in OT in Yahweh's instructions to Moses, conclusion of David's prayer, with reference to result following from truth of certain facts (Beasley-Murray). Preexistence ascribed also to wisdom in Second Temple literature (Wisdom 7:25; 9:10-11) based on Proverbs portrayal (esp. 8:28, 30). In John's Gospel preexistence ascribed to Jesus by: designation "the Word" (1:1, 14); title "Son of Man" (3:13; 6:62); "I am" preceding Abraham (8:58); coming from Father and returning (16:28).

Connection Method(s)
None — stylistic septuagintalism: the contact is the discourse formula "And now" that opens climactic covenant speech (Exodus 19:5's declaration; David's prayer, 2 Sam 7:25), a transition idiom of biblical prayer style; Jesus' petition for pre-creation glory makes no use of Sinai's treasured-possession content.
