Significance

"Now I know for sure that the Lord has sent His angel and rescued me from Herod's grasp" (Acts 12:11). Peter's testimony to divine rescue speaks the language of Israel's deliverance, where God is confessed as the one who saves His own from the tyrant's hand — "The God of my father was my helper and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh" (Exodus 18:4, the meaning enshrined in the name Eliezer). By analogy, Peter's escape from Herod is cast as another exodus-shaped rescue: the Lord who broke Pharaoh's grip breaks Herod's, sending His angel as once He sent deliverance to the fathers. The connection magnifies the continuity of God's saving character, and points beyond every temporal rescue to the great deliverance from the domain of darkness accomplished in Christ (Colossians 1:13).
