"Having vanquished seven nations in Canaan, He gave their land to His people as an inheritance" (Acts 13:19). Paul compresses the conquest into a single clause drawn from Moses' charge: the LORD would drive out before Israel "seven nations larger and stronger than you" and give them the land (Deuteronomy 7:1; cf. Joshua 14:1). The gift of the land as inheritance is the goal of the exodus and the sign of covenant faithfulness kept. The connection is redemptive-historical: the settled inheritance in Canaan is another stage on the way to Christ, and itself a shadow of the true rest and inheritance secured in Him. The land God won by driving out the nations anticipates the imperishable inheritance kept in heaven (1 Peter 1:4) for all — from every nation now — who are in the Son.
