Ezekiel 2:1-4BSB

“Son of man,” He said to me, “stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.” And as He spoke to me, the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard Him speaking to me. “Son of man,” He said to me, “I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me. To this very day they and their fathers have rebelled against Me. They are obstinate and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you are to say to them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’

Significance

Recounting his commission to Agrippa, Paul reports the risen Lord's charge to "get up and stand on your feet... to appoint you as a servant and as a witness" (Acts 26:16). The wording is cast in the mold of the classic prophetic calls — the LORD tells Ezekiel, "I am sending you to the Israelites" (Ezekiel 2:3), and assures Jeremiah, "to everyone I send you, you must go, and all that I command you, you must speak" (Jeremiah 1:7). Luke presents Paul's calling in continuity with Israel's prophets: raised to his feet, sent with a word, promised deliverance. The correspondence is by analogy, not a type pointing forward — Paul joins the line of the sent. Yet his mission surpasses theirs in its object: he is sent to open eyes and turn people from darkness to light (Acts 26:18), heralding not merely a word from the LORD but the risen Lord himself.
