Isaiah 53:10BSB

Yet it was the LORD's will to crush Him and to cause Him to suffer; and when His soul is made a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, and the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.

Significance

Paul insists his message is nothing new: "I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen: that the Christ would suffer, and as the first to rise from the dead, would proclaim light to our people and to the Gentiles" (Acts 26:22-23). The program is Isaiah's Servant, whom the LORD appoints "to be a covenant for the people and a light to the nations" (Isaiah 42:6) and who suffers for the transgression of God's people (Isaiah 53). Paul's whole defense is that the gospel fulfills Moses and the prophets rather than departing from them. The suffering-then-light pattern is the Servant's, realized in the crucified and risen Christ, who is himself the covenant and the light now offered to Jew and Gentile alike — the Servant God gave to be, in his own person, the covenant for his people.
