The church prays that God would "stretch out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy servant Jesus." The outstretched hand of God is the signature image of the exodus — the mighty hand and lifted arm by which He swore to redeem Israel and bring them into the land (Exod 6:8), the same hand that worked signs and wonders against Egypt. The believers ask the God of the exodus to act again, this time in healing and gospel-signs. Christ-terminus: the difference is that the delivering hand now moves "through the name of Jesus." The redemptive power once displayed at the Red Sea is concentrated in the risen Christ, so that every healing done in His name declares that the God who saved a nation now saves the world through His Servant.
