Exodus 24:8BSB
So Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."
In Exodus 24:8 Moses sprinkles the sacrificial blood on the people and declares, "This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words" — the enacted, bilateral ratification of the Sinai covenant, blood thrown on altar and people to seal the bond after Israel pledges, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do" (24:7). Paul's cup-word at 1 Corinthians 11:25 — "This cup is the new covenant in My blood" — invokes that same covenant-ratifying-blood structure: the cup is the new-covenant counterpart to what Moses applied at Sinai. The connection is Typology with historical escalation, and it passes the five marks: genuine correspondence (a covenant inaugurated by applied blood), historicity (both Sinai and the cross are real events), escalation (the blood of bulls becomes the Mediator's own blood; external sprinkling becomes the cup of his life poured out), pointing-forwardness (Sinai's breakable, repeatable rite anticipated something final), and retrospective reading (Christ at the table interprets his death as the covenant blood). Contrast rides alongside, not as bare negation but as the engine of escalation: the old covenant's animal blood ratified a bond Israel could not keep and could not perfect the conscience, whereas Christ's own blood secures forgiveness once for all. This is not the same pairing as Matthew 26:28: the Markan-Matthean stream preserves the bare formula "blood of the covenant" (a near-verbatim citation of Exod 24:8), while Paul, with Luke, gives the assimilated form new covenant in my blood — so this IP is filed as an Allusion and scoped to the Exod 24:8 blood-of-the-covenant anchor, with the new covenant strand (Jer 31:31) carried by the parallel 1 Cor 11:25 → Jer 31:31 pair; Paul's word fuses both Sinai-blood and Jeremiah-promise in one breath. The savoring is in the cup itself: Christ is not merely the priest who applies the covenant blood but the sacrifice whose own life-blood seals it — "in remembrance of Me" — so that the rite that binds the people is the giving of himself, and to drink the cup is to behold and taste the love that purchased them.
