Exodus 25:8BSB
And they are to make a sanctuary for Me, so that I may dwell among them.
Exodus 25:8 is the headwater of the divine-indwelling promise: at the programmatic head of the tabernacle instructions the LORD declares the purpose of all that follows — "make a sanctuary (miqdāš) for Me, so that I may dwell (wəšāḵantî, from שָׁכַן) among them (bəṯôḵām)." God will reside not over or near but in the midst of his people. Paul's words at 2 Corinthians 6:16 — "I will dwell with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people" — are a conflation: he fuses the Exod 25:8 / Lev 26:11-12 dwelling-verb with the "I will walk among them" of Lev 26:12 and the covenant-formula of Ezek 37:27, so this IP documents Exod 25:8 as the dwelling-promise source (Lev 26 and Ezek 37 are documented in their own sibling pairs). The road from this text to Christ is Promise-Fulfillment — the Sinaitic wəšāḵantî promise reaches its inaugurated realization when the church becomes the naos theou zōntos, "the temple of the living God," indwelt by the Spirit — and Longitudinal Theme, the Temple-and-Presence motif running Eden → tabernacle → Christ-as-true-sanctuary (John 1:14) → church → New Jerusalem (Rev 21:3). This is not bare typology of a single institution: in the text Paul announces the fulfillment of a covenant promise about where God dwells, so Promise-Fulfillment, not typology, is the warranted category for the verse-to-verse move. And the telos is not architecture but nearness: the sanctuary was always for God to be with us, and in Christ that dwelling is now so desirable and so near that we ourselves have become the place he delights to inhabit — the glory once veiled in a tent now beheld with unveiled faces, the indwelling God whom the redeemed heart most wants.
NT Use Pattern: Assimilated / composite — Exod 25:8 supplies the foundational "dwell among them" (wəšāḵantî bəṯôḵām) element of the 2 Corinthians 6:16 catena, conflated with Lev 26:11-12 and Ezek 37:27.
