Significance: Paul's shadow-list — "a feast, a New Moon (νεομηνίας), or a Sabbath" (Col 2:16) — reproduces the OT's own tripartite cultic formula "feasts, New Moons, and Sabbaths" (1 Chr 23:31; 2 Chr 2:4; 31:3; Neh 10:33; Isa 1:13-14; Ezek 45:17; Hos 2:11), the standing designation of Israel's covenant-calendar worship. Naming the institutions inside the σκιά/σῶμα predicate — "These are a shadow (σκιά) of the things to come, but the body that casts it (σῶμα) belongs to Christ" (2:17) — is the NT's own typological classification of the calendar system: to be named within the shadow-list is to be classified a shadow, not merely enumerated. The institutional outcome: the New Moon's monthly, trumpet-announced, sin-offering-renewed consecration of covenant time genuinely cast the outline of Christ, and now that the body has come the shadow's function is consummated — believers stand in the perpetual access and worship the monthly cycle could only gesture toward. This is the single most important NT text for the New Moon trajectory's classification as institutional typology.
